City encourages residents to volunteer and learn about local government

At the Commission meeting on October 16, the City Commission proclaimed “Together We Serve Week” and “Florida City Government Week.”  This was in response to requests from the Broward League of Cities, as well as the Florida League of Cities respectively. Both weeks will be celebrated October 21 – 27, 2012 and the message they convey is that all citizens can make a positive impact in our community through service and volunteerism. The City offers programs such as Government Academy and Citizens Police Academy to increase awareness and education about the workings of city government.

During this week, the City is encouraging residents to participate in a “Random act of Kindness” and share your story with us on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cityofcoralsprings.

The City of Coral Springs already has an outstanding history of volunteerism.  Volunteers give approximately 40,000 hours each year in the City of Coral Springs and make a substantial contribution in improving the quality of services delivered to our residents. This week is an effort to thank our existing volunteers and to encourage new ones to help make a difference in our community.  For information on service projects or volunteer opportunities during that week, or at any other time, please e-mail volunteer@coralsprings.org.
