The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the City of Coral Springs, Florida with the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget, attention to fiscal responsibility, and planning.
The award is given to cities whose budget documents meet the program’s criteria for a policy document that clearly defines the City’s strategic goals and strategies for addressing long term challenges; a financial plan that identifies revenue sources and expenditures; operations guide that identifies the activities, services, and functions that citizens can expect; and a communication tool that enhances the understanding of the complex material for the average reader. Organizations receiving the award must achieve a rating of proficient in all four categories to receive the award.
“The ability of a citizen to understand what its local government is doing and the reasons behind the choices it has made is an important function of the City’s budget documents,” Director of Budget, Strategy, and Communications Robert Goehrig said. “This award is a reflection of the City's dedication to citizen participation as well as its commitment to sound financial management.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving nearly 17,400 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
