In June of last year, these officers responded to assist in taking a known suspect of strong armed robbery into custody. The suspect repeatedly refused to obey verbal commands to lay on the ground at which time he was taken to the ground by K9 Mik with a bite to the bicep area and put in handcuffs. After being restrained the Officers noticed that the suspect was bleeding profusely from the bite area and deduced that the suspect may have a received an arterial bleed from the bite. Without regard to the fact they were dealing with a violent felon covered in blood, the three officers worked together to control the bleed, ultimately fashioning an old sweatshirt found in the garage into a makeshift tourniquet. EMS responded shortly thereafter and transported the suspect to CSMC where he required surgery. The EMS Lt. on scene as well as the ER doctor confirmed that the efforts expended by these three officers were critical in saving the suspects life.
