Exceptional Police Initiative Commendation – Detective Brian Koenig

An armed carjacking occurred at the Coral Square Mall by two female suspects. The vehicle was later recovered at hotel in Tamarac. On October 7, 2012 a pistol whipping and armed robbery of a 78 year old woman in the parking lot of the Coral Square Mall was committed by two female suspects matching same description of the women in the earlier carjacking. While Detective’s were unable to generate any leads on the first incident, deducing that the incidents were related Detective Koenig began to work with the few leads he had on the more recent case Upon interviewing the suspects, confessions were obtained for the Coral Square Mall carjacking and armed robbery. The suspects also confessed to an armed carjacking in the City of Sunrise. Evidence of all three crimes was also found in a hotel room where the suspects were working as prostitutes.
