The Training Unit works each and every day to develop and deliver training that is relevant, realistic and real. Within 2012 the Unit met or exceeded all of their established goals, effectively contributing to the department-wide initiative to reduce burglaries. In addition to their routine established responsibilities, the training unit helped the department reach its burglary reduction goal by conducting 172 hours of additional patrol in the city’s parks and fitness clubs as well as 239 hours of extra patrol in the residential neighborhoods of Coral Springs. The Training Unit provided comprehensive mandatory in-service training while also offering a number of supplemental training programs such as Advanced Search and Seizure, RAD and Warrior Mindset. The Unit extended their reach outside of the department to expose the City Commission and Senior Management to police operations by hosting a Range Familiarization Day. The Unit also facilitated the forfeiture purchase of AimPoint Optics for all issued AR-15’s, further enhancing the quality of response our officers provide to the Coral Springs community.
