Coral Springs recognized for Performance Management Successes

The International City/County Management Association is pleased to announce that Coral Springs, Florida is being recognized for superior performance management efforts with a Certificate of Excellence from the ICMA Center for Performance Measurement™. Coral Springs is among 28 jurisdictions receiving the highest level of recognition this year. The certificate program assesses a local government’s performance management program and encourages analysis of results by comparing to peers and gauging performance over time. Performance management aids in cost reduction, program prioritization, and quality improvement. It also encourages accountability and transparency. Certificates are awarded at the levels of Achievement, Distinction, and Excellence. "It is quite an honor to be recognized as among the best in the nation," City Manager Erdal Donmez said. Since 1993, the City of Coral Springs has used a business model to run the City, taking customer input and data analysis into consideration during the formulation of both the Strategic and Business plans. Top-level priorities the City focuses on are identified through customer survey data, an environmental scan and the performance measures. The Center for Performance Measurement has been paramount in the City’s success, allowing for comparison of City data to other local governments. The Center currently offers its services to more than 200 cities, towns, counties and other local governments in the United States and Canada. Communities report data for 15 local government services (e.g. police, fire/EMS, road maintenance, park, code enforcement). Data are then used to identify management practices that contribute to high performance so that local governments can learn from each other in a process of continuous improvement. About ICMA ICMA advances professional local government worldwide. Its mission is to create excellence in local governance by developing and advancing professional management of local government. ICMA, the International City/County Management Association, provides member support; publications, data, and information; peer and results-oriented assistance; and training and professional development to nearly 9,000 city, town, and county experts and other individuals and organizations throughout the world. The management decisions made by ICMA's members affect 185 million individuals living in thousands of communities.
