October 4, 2013 - Criminals Posing as City Employees Distract Elderly Victim and Burglarize Her Home
Coral Springs Police Detectives are currently investigating a distraction theft that took place on September 19, 2013 at approximately two o’clock in the afternoon, in the Riverwood subdivision. The victim identified as Giocomina Arnone, 90, of Coral Springs, was at her residence at 1580 Riverwood Lane, when she received a knock at her door from a white male claiming to be a city employee. The male suspect told the victim that he left a card on her door last week and he needed to check her backyard reference a tree that needed to be trimmed. Giocomina accompanied the male to the rear of her residence when a second unknown suspect went into her home through the unlocked front door. The second suspect stole over $1,600 in jewelry from the master bedroom. The suspect posing as the city employee told Giocomina that someone would be coming to trim the tree and he proceeded to leave in a small black pick-up truck. Giocomina never saw any city credentials on the suspect, but described him as a white male with dark hair between 29-35 years old. He was wearing a white polo shirt and dark pants. Coral Springs Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this incident or a similar incident please contact Detective Mike Savasta at (954)346-1773.
