On February 7th a man called CSPD from Ft. Lauderdale advising that his wife was suicidal and he had reason to believe she was attempting to take her life by running her vehicle while enclosed in the garage of their Coral Springs home. Sergeant Myers responded to the address and upon verifying the validity of the information provided and checking the perimeter of the home, he determined it was necessary to force entry in order to check on the woman’s condition. With the assistance of additional Officers on scene entry to the home was made through the home’s rear patio sliding glass door. Sergeant Myers opened the interior garage door, at which time they were confronted with heavy exhaust fumes. They then quickly opened the exterior garage door in order to vent the garage. Sgt. Myers physically extracted the woman from the car and dragged her out of the garage in order to remove her from the potentially toxic environment. It is for this reason he is being awarded the Lifesaving Commendation.
