On August 24th, Officers Hildebrandt, Lortie and Dintleman were dispatched to a reported suicide attempt in which the subject had cut his neck with a knife. They arrived to find a 27-year old subject, covered in blood and being restrained by family members. They further deduced he had not only slit his own throat, but, had also inserted the knife directly into his skull. Upon seeing the officers, the family members released the subject. Despite the fact the subject was bleeding profusely, these three officers worked together to safely take the man to the ground, restrain him and apply the appropriate emergency medical techniques to reduce his bleeding until the arrival of EMS. EMS transported the subject to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery that lasted several hours. Despite imminent risk to their own safety, they subdued a knife wielding subject that was bleeding profusely, causing each of them to become covered in blood. As a result of their selfless actions they are being awarded the Lifesaving Commendation.
