On August 5th a citizen observer reported that they witnessed an elderly woman get robbed while she was walking down the street. The citizen observer provided dispatch with a thorough description of the suspected assailant and his get-away vehicle. He attempted to follow the vehicle but quickly lost sight of it. The information provided by the citizen observer was broadcast as a BOLO while Officers made their way to the potential location of the vehicle. Shortly after hearing the BOLO TAI McGirt observed a male suspect matching the BOLO description exiting a vehicle also matching the description provided in the BOLO. TAI McGirt quickly called out the location and direction of the suspect, now on foot, and proceeded to follow the white vehicle. Undercover officers were able to apprehend the primary suspect that fled on foot. TAI McGirt was able to maintain a visual on the vehicle and provide direction to marked Units responding to the area. A felony stop of the vehicle was made at which time the occupants were found to be involved and the earlier robbery. Further investigation revealed that one of the suspects had been involved in another robbery that occurred earlier in the week, in the same area. TAI McGirt was instrumental in directing Officers to multiple suspects in multiple locations, ultimately resulting in the clearance of two felony robbery cases. It is for these reasons TAI McGirt is being awarded the Exceptional Support Initiative Commendation.
