In early March, Officer Deluca responded to a complaint of woman receiving harassing phones calls from her ex-husband. In the course of his investigation he learned that the suspect making the harassing calls also sells Oxycodone. Officer Deluca provided the victim with his cellphone and advised her to call should the suspect’s whereabouts become known. Later the same month, the victim called and advised Officer Deluca that the suspect would be in Coral Springs later the same day. Officer Faiola then contacted on-duty Substation officers and provided them with the suspect’s description and vehicle information. Utilizing an unmarked vehicle the officers followed the suspect’s vehicle and witnessed several traffic violations. A traffic stop was made and consent was given to officers to search the vehicle. Fifty-two Oxycodone pills were located inside an over-the-counter pill bottle allowing the suspect to be placed under arrest for trafficking Oxycodone. As a result of Officer Deluca’s excellent interview skills and engagement of his fellow officers in the Substation Unit a drug trafficker was removed from the street. It is for this reason Officer Deluca is being awarded the Exceptional Police Initiative Commendation.
