City awards volunteers the Lynne Johnson Award

In honor of National Volunteer Week, the City Commission honored a group of volunteers by awarding them the “Lynne Johnson Award” at the Commission Meeting held on Wednesday, April 23.

For the “Seniors Making a Difference” category, the Commission recognized Gerald Fasman. He has been a volunteer since 2003 and devotes approximately 80 hours per month to the Police Department, providing assistance to the Fleet and Facilities Division and Parking Enforcement. For the “Youth Making a Difference” category, the Commission recognized Tyler Horn. He is a senior at Coral Springs High and has been volunteering the past four years in various projects, including Leadership Mentoring, Holiday Cards for Soldiers, Holiday Bags for seniors, the Holiday Parade, the Water Tower painting and much more.

Steve Mitchell was recognized for the “Committed to Enhancing City Services” category. He has been volunteering for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Community Assisted Patrol (CAP) and also participates in the Customer-Involved Government Committee.

Lastly, Jackie Bolden received an award in “Enhancing the Lives of Coral Springs Residents” category. She has been volunteering for the past 12 years as a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee. She has worked tirelessly and selflessly to develop their program for the MLK weekend celebration and also devotes her time to the MLK Golf Tournament. She is commended for her volunteer spirit, hard work and dedication.

Honorable mentions were awarded to John Malvin and Joe Morera for their involvement in the community and their volunteer service.

These awards were named after Lynne Johnson in 2009 in memory of her dedicated volunteer service to the City of Coral Springs. The City will continue to honor volunteers annually with the receipt of the “Lynne Johnson Award.” Applications will once again be available next year.

The City of Coral Springs encourages volunteerism for people of all ages and values their contributions to make Coral Springs the premiere city in which to live, work and raise a family. For more information about volunteering with the City of Coral Springs, visit or call 954-346-4430.
