Earlier this year Youth Liaison Officer Greear was performing a Child Protective Investigation follow-up on a serious sexual abuse incident involving one of her students, who was known to live in Delray Beach, where the mother was a prostitute and her live-in boyfriend was a convicted sexual predator. While the case originated at the child’s former home in Palm Beach County, due to the serious nature of the allegations, Officer Greear went above and beyond to assert herself into the situation in order to prevent further harm to her student.
She visited the child’s home in Coral Springs, interviewed the child and went as far as to contact the jurisdiction where the suspect used to live to obtain all reports relative to the case. In the course of her obtaining the reports she discovered that the previous Police Department had closed the case and mistakenly never assigned the case to Child Protective Services in Palm Beach for investigation.
Understanding the seriousness of the situation and despite the fact the incidents in question did not happen on our jurisdiction, Officer Greear went as far as to contact one of our Sex Crimes Detectives who through his due diligence was able to get the Assistant State Attorney in conjunction with CPIS to re-open the case for investigation.
Officer Greear went above and beyond to do everything within her power to ensure that the child involved in this case has a safe place to live. It is for these reasons that Officer Greear is being awarded and Exceptional Police Initiative Commendation.
