Bob has served as the Coral Springs Police Department Range Master since 2009. In this role he trains new and veteran officers in marksmanship, firearms safety and tactics. Every year he undertakes the immense task of conducting four quarterly training sessions, including required annual scored qualifications for every officer.
In addition to these duties, Bob personally inspects, and if necessary repairs, every firearm in the police inventory. He treats every weapon as if his own life might depend on it. Since assuming his duties as Range Master, Bob has assisted with the complex job of coordinating range leasing to outside agencies as well as qualifying retired officers under The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004.
Bob’s handling of the range has produced a perfect safety record in his tenure as Range Master.
In the third quarter of 2013, Bob was responsible for transitioning the entire department from our current handguns to Sig Sauer handguns. This entailed the collection of all old pistols, the inventory and distribution of the new Sig Sauer’s, along with administering training for the new weapons. This herculean task was accomplished in only two months due largely in part because Bob went significantly above and beyond what was routinely expected of him in the course of his daily duties. He worked tirelessly, adjusting his established schedule to accommodate the needs of all department members, even working on weekends.
Range Master Behan consistently displays exemplary service to this department. His activities in 2013 personify his dedication to the Officers of this agency and the community in which he serves. It is for this reason he is Civilian Member of the Year for 2013.
