Move Over Promotes Cycling Safety

Cyclist The Move Over bicycle safety campaign is the City’s ongoing commitment to vehicle and rider safety. The name is a play on Florida’s law requiring drivers to give cyclists three feet of space when passing on the road.

Latest: Broward MPO introduces BiKE Broward

Cyclists are now able to find out the best way to reach their destination with the help of BiKE Broward. The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) launched this innovative Internet-based bicycle route planning tool to helps riders plan their trips. Cyclists only need to enter their start and end locations to receive turn-by-turn directions. BiKE Broward users are also able to select from five types of routes: short, fast, least interaction with traffic, simple and scenic. In addition, riders may enter multiple travel points along their journey. The concept was born in March 2008 and is a joint effort between Broward MPO, FIU’s Geographic Information System Center and UF’s GeoMatics Program at the Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center. The City has also undertaken several programs to promote the Move Over initiative.

The Coral Springs Police Department is rewarding children 16 and under who are caught wearing bicycle helmets with a free lunch to Chik-Fil-A.
City employees and members of a local cycling club participated in the annual Holiday Parade. Riders put signs on their bikes promoting the Move Over initiative.
The City, in its quest to remain a Commit 2B Fit community, participated in a community-wide health and wellness event. Materials promoting bike safety, along with the Move Over campaign, were given out to attendees.
