Criminal Scene Investigations Unit
The Crime Scene Investigations Unit is a civilian support unit of the police department responsible for crime scene processing, fingerprint identification and the storage of property/evidence. Presently there is one supervisor, five Crime Scene Technicians, one Crime Laboratory Technician, two full-time Property Technicians, one part-time Property Technician, one Latent Print Examiner and five CSI Volunteers. The Crime Scene Technicians process approximately 1,000 crime scenes each year, ranging from burglary to death investigations. Department members submit approximately 50,000 evidence items each year.
Normal hours of operation are between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. seven days a week. A Crime Scene Technician is on call during the non-business hours. On Wednesday of each week, property is released to owners between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
