Bank Robber Arrested by Coral Springs Officers
Coral Springs Police arrested a man who robbed the Washington Mutual bank branch at 10585 Wiles Rd. early this morning. Henry L. Ferguson, date of birth July 8, 1972, of 5941 NW 16 Pl. Sunrise was arrested after Officer Mike Snyder responded to a silent alarm at the bank and noticed the man standing outside with a backpack. When the man saw the officer he ran and Officer Snyder, along with Officer Jeff Beaver and Officer Scott Myers, began chasing the suspect. The suspect was arrested across the street at Betti Stradling Park after a brief struggle with the officers. During the arrest, it was discovered that the suspect was wearing a bulletproof vest and had a handgun in his waistband.
According to bank employees, at around 7:45 AM the suspect forced an employee arriving for work into the bank at gunpoint. Once inside, the suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and left the bank. The bag with the money was recovered. Police are also looking for a second suspect described as a black male who was driving a green Honda hatchback. Ferguson was arrested for the state offenses of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting with Violence. Federal charges are still pending.
