Coral Springs, FL – On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, the Coral Springs Commission voted 4-1 to approve the financing for improvements and enhancements at Kiwanis Park located at 520 Ramblewood Drive, along with the construction of a new Fire Station 64. The proposal presented, includes the development of a multi-generational community center at the site of the current Fire Station 64, and the creation of an elevated nature trail boardwalk through the wet hammock behind Safety Town.

Regarding the enhancements, Mayor Scott Brook said, “This project is an opportunity to create a communal space for older residents, younger residents and nature enthusiasts to enjoy an under-utilized park and nature preserve in Coral Springs.”

Supporting the City of Coral Springs and the decision to move forward, Fire Chief Michael McNally said, “The Fire Station 64 project will allow us to serve the residents of this neighborhood and throughout the city from a modern facility with state of the art technologies that will enhance our ability to respond to emergencies in a more efficient manner. This project will also allow us to work cooperatively with the residents through public programming in the new multi-generational community center.”

City Manager Frank Babinec added, “The importance of moving Fire Station 64 out of a school zone for safety purposes, while making necessary improvements to the Fire Station to properly house important emergency response equipment, is something the city has worked towards since 2014. Public safety remains one of our greatest priorities, if we can accomplish the move of Fire Station 64, while improving our parks experience, it is a great benefit to the city and its residents.”

These improvements will maximize the use of our facilities and residents are invited to take a walk with City Manager Frank Babinec and city staff at the park on Saturday, November 7 at 10 a.m. to answer any questions about the plans.
