March is here and with it comes Springtime and some warmer weather. I always look forward to the cooler temperatures we have in December, January, and February but yesterday afternoon I could tell summer temperatures are right around the corner. Temperatures are not the only thing heating up in our City; so are vehicle burglaries.
Vehicle burglaries continue to be a focus for us at the police department. You can help us with vehicle burglaries by locking your doors and removing items of value from the passenger areas of your vehicle. Most vehicle burglars only target unlocked vehicles. In fact, we recently arrested a vehicle burglar who told our officers that he “couldn’t believe that someone would leave their door open” and cited that as the reason for committing the vehicle burglary. Please help us to keep our City safe by removing items, especially handguns, from your vehicle compartments and locking your vehicles doors.
We will be reminding residents about crime prevention and safety tips during our operation “Welcome Home” that will occur on March 11, between 5PM and 7PM. Officers will be at Publix Supermarkets and Walmart stores to greet our citizens while delivering crime prevention messages. We will also provide vaccine awareness information to our residents. I have received many complements about our vaccine distribution site at the Coral Square Mall, but much more work needs to be done to defeat COVID-19.
Please join us on March 4, for our virtual “Slice of Springs” community meeting. Our ‘Slice of Springs’ meetings are a great opportunity for residents to engage with city staff, ask questions and learn more about projects and initiatives. I will join other city department representatives to provide insight on topics. Residents are encouraged to join us via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and CityTV. Also, if you have not done so already, please check out our City’s new website. The new website is user friendly and helps residents connect with us. You can navigate the new website by visiting CoralSprings.org.
March 17 is Saint Patrick’s Day so I would like to leave you with this Irish Blessing: May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and may you lock your vehicles doors and help us make Coral Springs safer! Happy St. Patties Day! If you haven’t already, please connect with me on Facebook @ChiefParry.
