It’s summertime again and anyone who is outside knows it is hot. It is always a good reminder to drink plenty of water when participating in outside activities. We can easily become dehydrated when the heat index hits triple digits, like it has the last few days. If you or your children are participating in outdoor activity, protect yourself by drinking plenty of good old H2O.
I hope you all celebrated our Nation’s 245th birthday and enjoyed the 4th of July holiday. I know that many of our residents came out to Mullins Park for the City sponsored events. My family and I enjoyed the fantastic fireworks show that capped off a great day of family events. It was great getting back to in-person gatherings and sharing this holiday with so many of you. I hope you all had the opportunity to enjoy Independence Day with those who matter to you most.
As I reflect on how good it felt to hold large public events, I am confronted by the reality that our COVID-19 cases are climbing as new strains of the virus continue to spread. Right now, we are tracking the cases and keeping an eye on the spread of the virus. I encourage you to be mindful of the numbers and take every safety precaution to protect yourself, your family and your neighbors. If you haven’t yet, but are considering getting the vaccine, you can schedule an appointment at the Coral Square Mall vaccine site.
The CSPD Summer Youth Program is in full swing as our officers and community partners provide a summer youth camp for our underserved population. We work hard at providing a safe summer camp where officers interact with children and provide them with sporting activities, arts and crafts, safety training and much more. I would like to thank our community partners such as Broward County Schools, Fiserv, Share your Heart, Off-Lease Only, Parkridge Baptist Church, Wawa and Knights of Columbus. Without their generous support, this program would not be possible. Please click here to see more about our Summer Youth Program, .
I would like to thank our City Commissioners and members of the community who participated in our scenario day training. This training provided them with a glimpse of what it is like to be a police officer as they navigated real-life scenarios. If you would like to see more about our scenario training day, please click here. I thank our Training Unit, role players and the participants who went through the scenarios for making this day a success!
Broward County Public Schools begin classes on August 18th this year. The safety of our children is paramount to our Department. I would like to remind you all to be mindful of our school zones and warn you that our officers will be out in force making sure the kids are safe as they travel to and from school. Please obey the speed limits and take extra caution around our schools.
Yesterday was the best day to prepare for hurricane season, today is the second-best day to prepare. If you haven’t prepared for hurricane season, I urge you to do so immediately. Please consider stocking up on your emergency food and water supplies, medicines and first aid kits, emergency power sources, flashlights, batteries and a fire extinguisher. Should we face a storm this season, we will provide constant valuable information through our social media outlets. Please do not wait for a storm to threaten us before you have your supplies and plans in place. I encourage you to follow us on Facebook and Twitter @CoralSpringsPolice.
As always, if you see something suspicious or unusual in the community, you have the power to “Make a Call, and Make a Difference” by calling our non-emergency number (954) 344-1800. If you haven’t already, please connect with me on Facebook @ChiefParry.
