Regardless of the challenges we have experienced and continue to mitigate related to the COVID-19 pandemic, your City Commission and city staff remain committed to public service and meeting the needs of our residents and businesses. The health, safety and well-being of the public is one of the most important services we can provide in city government, which is why we have put so much effort and commitment in securing vaccines for our residents. All Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Broward County vaccine sites no longer require appointments and accept walk-ups. For locations, visit the Broward County website.
What we have missed the most during COVID-19 is hosting events that bring our residents and community members together. With the increase in vaccinations and decrease in COVID-19 cases, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As we continue to host events with virtual options, we are also starting to plan in person events too – like our Memorial Day Ceremony! These are some of the events we have on the horizon:
On Thursday, May 6, 2021, at 7 p.m., the Clergy Coalition of Coral Springs and Parkland, in partnership with the Coral Springs Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee, will honor and celebrate the Annual National Day of Prayer. Residents can tune in through the livestream or on CityTV, Blue Stream Channels 25, 25.7, 725 and on AT&T U-Verse channel 99.
Earlier this year, the city launched a four-month open play chess program, leading up to the inaugural King of Coral Springs Chess Tournament, taking place on Saturday May 15, 2021. The tournament will be held in partnership with the National Scholastic Chess Foundation at the Coral Springs Gymnasium.
On Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 7 p.m., the Annual Teen Political Forum will be held live virtually on Twitter, YouTube, CityTV, Blue Stream Channels 25, 25.7, 725 and on AT&T U-Verse channel 99. The forum is planned and organized by high school students, with guidance from city officials and staff. High School students are encouraged to participate in the 2021 Teen Political Forum - an open mic style forum for students to raise questions and converse with state, county and local elected officials about issues that are important to them.
On Saturday, May 29, 2021, the City of Coral Springs is set to host the free 2gether @Sunset Country Music Concert at Tom Messenheimer Field at Coral Springs Sportsplex (2575 Sportsplex Drive). POD seating for this event is ticketed on a first-come, first-serve basis, with priority to Coral Springs residents with proof of residency. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the concert starts at 6 p.m.
Memorial Day is more than just an extension to the weekend where citizens enjoy pool parties and family cookouts. It’s a day to honor the brave men and women of our armed forces who gave their lives in service to our nation. The city, in partnership with the Coral Springs Veterans Coalition, will host its annual, in-person Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Park (8601 Royal Palm Boulevard).
Although we are excited to finally have the return of some sense of normalcy in our city, we remind residents continue to do their part to prevent the spread COVID-19. Our hope is that the worst of COVID-19 is near and we could not be more excited to reconnect with residents at events, ceremonies, and public. Learn more about all of these events at coralsprings.org/events or text the keyword CORALSPRINGS to 888-777 to receive updates and information.
We wish all of the women who are mothers or maternally care for others, a Happy Mother’s Day.
