The City of Coral Springs Department of Budget and Strategy has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the current fiscal year, which began on October 1, 2020. This is the city’s 30th time receiving such distinction.

Nationally recognized strategies for effective budget presentation need to be satisfied by the Department of Budget and Strategy to earn the GFOA. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operational guide, and communication tool.

GFOA reviewers provided outstanding commentary about the Department Budget and Strategy’s efforts to identify COVID-19 impacts, their overview of trends, assumptions behind financial forecasts and overall presentation.

City Manager Frank Babinec commended staff for their exceptional efforts, saying, “Regardless of the challenges the city faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Budget and Strategy continued to prioritize the community’s needs while supporting our organizational and strategic priorities. Their commitment to meeting and exceeding the highest principles of governmental budgeting, serves as an example of our organization’s commitment to be the premier community in which to live, work and raise a family.”

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional organization, which serves nearly 19,000 government finance professionals throughout the nation. To learn more about the organization and award criteria, visit www.gfoa.org.
