Coral Springs, FL – On July 28, 2021, the Department of Budget and Strategy presented to the City Commission the Fiscal Year 2022 proposed fees and rate increases, which ensure a more sustainable and thriving future for the City of Coral Springs.

As a city that is home to 133,759 residents and 4,317 businesses, Coral Springs ranks as the 5th most populated city in Broward County. With the current employee-to-resident ratio of 6.68, one of the lowest in the county, the amount of effort, time, and capital needed to maintain a prosperous, beautiful, and safe city increases annually as more citizens and businesses join the community.

Coral Springs provides residents with an attractive community, great customer service, family-friendly events, sports programming, art, culture, and top-notch public safety. The following fees and rates increased are part of the proposal:

  • The proposed Fire Assessment for single family homeowner is $249.72, which is a $15.72 increase per year or $1.31 per month.
  • The proposed Solid Waste Assessment for single family homeowner is $322.00, which is a $32.00 increase per year or $2.67 per month.
  • Proposed Millage Rate Increase: .35 / for a total new millage of $6.2232

There is no increase for the Stormwater Assessment for FY 2022.

Regarding the proposed fees, Mayor Scott J. Brook said, “When budgets and staffing are underfunded, aesthetics and routine maintenance can easily lose priority. That is not acceptable, because how our city looks and is managed is in direct correlation to how our residents feel about the community, they call home. Over the last year there has been an increase in so many areas of industry, goods, and service. This is also the same for city operations. Our joint commitment is to make decisions now that will ensure that Coral Springs thrives and is sustainable 10, 20 and 30 years down the road.”

As part of the city’s ongoing commitment to provide residents with information about city finances and planning, the Department of Budget and Strategy is hosting two, one-hour Budget Academy sessions on Monday, August 23, 2021. To accommodate scheduling, there will be a virtual and in person session. Registration is required.

  • Virtual - via the video conferencing app, Zoom from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • In-person - at City Hall from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In addition to the Budget Academy, staff will be available to meet with residents at City Hall between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on August 23rd, to answer questions from residents who are unable to attend a Budget Academy session. In addition, representatives from the Broward County Property Appraisers Office will be at City Hall to provide information on homestead exemptions.

Representatives from the Department of Budget and Strategy will present residents with an overview of the city’s budget process, including how tax dollars are allocated and used for city services and operations.
