Swimming laps around the competition throughout her 20-year career, Coral Springs resident, Dara Torres has been referred to as “arguably the fastest female swimmer in America.” With a title like that, it is no surprise to hear that she has competed in five Olympic Games and won 12 medals in her career. At the 2012 U.S. trials, Torres narrowly missed the opportunity to go to her 6th Olympic Games, finishing in 4th place. At 45, and after undergoing a radical reconstructive surgery on her knee three years prior, Torres left nothing behind. After all, 4th place is nothing to scoff at.
After retiring, Torres took what she’d learned over time to the 2016 Olympics in Rio, where she served as a mentor to US athletes.
Dara Torres is an excellent example of pursuing a dream with perseverance, despite setbacks.
We are proud of her outstanding achievements in sports and female empowerment.
